News
News entries are displayed in the frontend only on the start page to provide visitors with a quick overview. Only a maximum of three news items are displayed on the home page. The link All news leads to a list with all published news.
Note: In the backend, new images with the current size have been added to the News image pool that you can use for your news. Pay attention to the title new_news..
How do I create a news item?
- Select the WEB → List module.
- Click the News folder in the page tree.
- Click Create dataset next to Title heading in the Article element.
- The news item is displayed under the General tab. Here you can enter a title, teaser (subtitle) and text.
- Optionally, you can add a news image in the Relations tab.
- To do this, click the Add Media File button and select the image.
- In the image metadata you now have the option to display the image only in the preview view, only in the detail view or in both views.
- Optionally, you can add a news image in the Relations tab.
- Do not forget to save!
The required image format for news is 3:2 and the minimum width of an image should be 800px. This means that the height of the image must be 533 px for a width of 800 px. If you have a different image size, the appropriate size must be calculated by you.
If a news item is no longer to appear on the initial page, but must remain available, the date from which the message is to be placed in the archive, i.e. only available under all news items, can be set in the Archive date field in the General tab.
To display the image in the preview view as well, you have to click on the image in the Relations tab to open the image metadata. Here you can check the box to display it in the preview view as well. If you don't do this, a default image is displayed.
You can subscribe to news and events from Uni Graz websites in Outlook. The URLs are:
- Eventurl: subdomain.uni-graz.at/de/events.xml
- Newsurl: subdomain.uni-graz.at/de/news.xml
Instead of "subdomain" you have to use the subdomain of the desired web presence (e.g. sociology.uni...)!

In the news folder (in the list view) there is the possibility to show more options or to hide information that is not needed. For example, if you have submitted a publication request to uni.on for a news item, you will not see this category in your list. To turn this option on, click on the small arrow to the right of the Article heading, wait for the display to load, and scroll all the way down (below the listed news), then you will be presented with several query options that you can click on. If you click on "Set fields", your setting will be applied and the additional fields will be output in the news overview.
If you want to embed a (YouTube) video in your news, you can only do so in the text area. How to embed a YouTube video:
- In the General tab of the RT Editor, paste the VideoURL or text and create a link (External URL) with the video URL to be embedded on the page. Select CSS Class oEmbed in the drop-down box.
- Now click on "Set link".
- Don't forget to save!
Replace news image with video:
Now, if you want the video to replace the news image in the detail view, but you want an image to be displayed in the preview, create an image and add it in the Media tab as usual, select Show only in list view in the image metadata drop-down box in Views, and add the video in the first position in the text box in the General tab as described.
News is created by each area. If a news item is also appropriate for your area, you do not have to create it again, but can request the press office to copy this news item to your area. However, this news item cannot then be edited or deleted by you.
By default, only German-language news is configured on a website.
If you translate a news item, the headline and teaser will appear in English on the English language version of the page, but when you try to open the English news item, you will get the information of the German language news item.
If you decide to display the news in English as well, the person responsible for the website must contact the service desk via e-mail, then the PlugIn can be enabled for English use.
Please pay attention, if English news have been configured for your area, that first the German news WITHOUT PICTURE must be created and in this, in the tab Language "German" must be selected. Then the translation of this news can be created. As soon as the English version of the message was created, the picture can be added in the German-language news. This will be automatically synchronized into the equivalent English message.
