Search engine optimization

In order to better prepare your page for search engines and thereby have your page displayed higher in the order of the hit results, there are, among other things, the following possibilities of search optimization.

In order to have a page indexed faster by search engines, it is helpful if another page links to yours. For example, if it is a conference page, it could also be linked in the institute page as an event, news or teaser. If a personal page needs to be found more easily, it could also be linked in your UNIGRAZonline business card.

When creating the website, make sure that the keywords used to search for your website later on are also present in the content (e.g. page title, headline of the contact box, image description...) on the page.

Note: Also note that all your pages that have the status "Hidden in menus" (for example training or test pages) can be indexed and thus found by search engines and listed as a result. Also, all uploaded images and documents in the file list are publicly available.

Yoast SEO is an option to optimize the search or finding of your web pages. You can use YOAST SEO in the backend by right-clicking - in the page tree on the desired page - selecting "Edit", the tab Yoast SEO to view and edit your settings.

  • In the Snippet Preview section, a preview of your current website is displayed (As it would be displayed, for example: via the Google search engine). This preview is composed of page title, page address and meta description field and can be edited by you.
  • Below that there is the Readability - Analysis section which provides you with a text analysis. SEO Main Keyword is used to align the keyword density and provides further assistance on the textual implementation of the website.

The metadata also serves to improve the findability of your page on the web. Like Yoast Seo, you can edit the metadata by editing the page properties (right click on the page title in the page tree), in the Metadata tab. These are composed of 2 fields in our Typo3 instance:

  • Summary - will not be output in the frontend, text should not be too long.
  • Keywords - keywords are separated by commas, max. 10-15 terms, these keywords should be present in the frontend of the corresponding page to have a positive effect on the findability of your page.

You can read a more detailed description of the fields here:
