Pages
The arrangement of the pages in the page tree also determines the appearance of the menu structure. Before the page content can be created, the page itself must first be created.
The Page ID, also called the page number, can be found in the page tree to the left of the page title in square brackets or, if you are on a page, at the top right of the page path, also shown with square brackets.
Note: If you have a problem editing a page and contact the service desk, let us know the PageID. This will help us navigate to your page faster.
- To create a new page, right-click in the page tree on the page next to or below which you want to create a new page.
- In the context menu, select More options...► and "Create new" wizard.
- Now click on the arrow at whose position the page is to be created.
- Now enter the page title and save the newly created page.
Deactivate // Activate
If a page should no longer be displayed, it can be deactivated by right-clicking in the page tree and selecting Deactivate. This page can now no longer be viewed. If a page is to be displayed again, right-click on the page in the page tree and select Activate.
Note: The contents of the page are now no longer visible. In the backend in the page tree the deactivated page is marked with a no entry sign in the icon.
Hidden in the menu
If a page should not appear in the menu structure, it can be hidden by right-clicking in the page tree and selecting Edit in the Access tab via the Page activated in menus slider.
Note: This page can be indexed, is therefore available worldwide and can be found in search engines. In the backend, the icon in the page tree is a bit brighter and the mouseover says "Page in menus not activated".
To delete a page, right-click on the page to be deleted in the page tree and select Delete. However, this only works if the page has no subpages. These would also have to be deleted individually in order to delete the parent page.
Note: Once a page has been deleted, it can no longer be restored via the history.
Move
Moving a page can be done either via drag & drop or by right-clicking and cutting the page.
- If the page is clicked and moved in the page tree, you have to pay attention to how the icon in the popup changes, whether you insert the page on its own layer or whether the page becomes a subpage.
- When the page is cut, it is necessary to click on the page next to or below which the cut page is to be inserted. By means of Paste In or Paste After it is possible to determine whether the page should be inserted on its own level or as a subpage.
If there is not yet an alternative page language for the website, the person responsible for the website must first request activation of the desired language. This is best done via e-mail to servicedesk(at)uni-graz.at
Create translation of the page:
- Select the WEB → Page module.
- Click on the page to be translated in the page tree.
- In the menu bar, click on the small arrow to change the view to languages (the columns are now displayed one below the other).
- At Create new translation of this page select the language you want to translate your page into.
- The window for translating the page will open. Enter the page title in the corresponding language and save the page.
- Pay attention to the URL segment field below, if it contains .../translate-to-... here, deactivate and activate the slider at Synchronize URL Segment.
If you want to be redirected directly to another page as soon as you click on the page in the menu structure, proceed as follows:
- Open the page in the backend via right-click on the page in the page tree and select Edit.
- In the tab Type must now:
- Select Link, if you want to link to another page on your own website.
- Select Link to external URL if you want to link to an external URL.
- Confirm the update of the form fields with OK.
- Now enter
- if you select Link, enter the link destination and pay attention to the selection in the dropdown of the link mode.
- If you select Link to external URL, enter the address and the protocol (https://...) of the page to which you want to link in the URL field.
- Click the Save button to apply the changes.
Note: if you want to make a link from a page, first add a text and media element on the page that, if visitors are not redirected directly, they will be redirected to the corresponding page via refresh the page or via the specified link. If the referral page is accessed through the search results, the automatic redirection may not work and the page visitor will land on an empty page.
Sometimes it may be necessary that a certain subpage is accessible under a shorter link, e.g. to print the link to a flyer.
Example: The requested subdomain is called "schulung.uni-graz.at". Under the menu item "Design" there is the sub-item "Layout" with the further sub-item "Design elements". This page can be found under the address https://schulung.uni-graz.at/de/design/layout/gestaltungselemente/. If you want to refer directly to the page "Design elements", you can use a short link and thus generate the link https://schulung.uni-graz.at/de/elemente/.
To do this, proceed as follows:
- In the backend, hover over your home page in the page tree and click the right mouse button and select More Options > "Create New" Wizard from the context menu.
- Select the location where you want to insert the page. Possible "Insert" options are shown with an arrow. It is important that the new page is inserted one level below the home page.
- Assign a page name that corresponds to your desired short link, in our example "elemente".
- Now you have to change the type of the page. To do this, select the type Link in the General tab.
- Confirm the change with OK.
- In the General tab you have to specify where to link to. Under Reference target, in the text field Search records, the page title or the page ID can be entered. It is also possible to click to the right of the link target (Browse records) or under Link target (Page) to select the page from the page tree.
- The page title, of the new page (from step 1) determines the name of the short link. Here you enter the name as usual (in the example above "Elements").
- The short link must now be switched to active in the Access tab so that the forwarding works. In this step, the short link can also be hidden in the menu so that the created page does not appear as a menu item in the frontend. However, since the page is still searchable, write a short text in the middle column. An example would be, "If you are not automatically redirected, click here." With a link to the page you want to jump to.
- Don't forget to save!
In the page tree you can see that the icon in front of "Elements" has changed.
When a page is shared on Facebook or Twitter, a special image, headline and description can be entered by you in this tab.
If a page is to be published at a later date, a publication date for the page can be set via the page properties, i.e. via right-clicking in the page tree on the page to be changed, selecting Edit in the context menu and navigating to the Access tab.
If the page should no longer be displayed after a certain date, an expiration date can also be entered in the Access tab.
For unit, project and event pages as well as for personal homepages the 3-column layout is set by default.
For example, if you use a form or want to display a large table, you can also change the backend layout to a two-column layout Content: 2-column (25% / 75%) in the backend via the page properties in the Appearance tab.
If the layout of personal homepages is to be changed, Homepage: 2-columns (25% / 75%) can be used.
