General information
What is TYPO3?
TYPO3 is an open source software that may be used, modified and redistributed without license fees. The content management system TYPO3 is a software in which you do not need any HTML knowledge or programming know-how to build your website and create content. The uniCMS is centrally maintained and updated by uniIT, all security relevant updates are continuously installed by us on Thursday in our maintenance window from 6 to 9 am. If you try to log in during this time, you may not be able to access the system. If this is the case, maintenance messages will be published on the intranet.
If you request a Typo3 page from us via the IT support portal, we will provide you with a basic structure consisting of the start page with configured news, subpages, a sidebar default elements page and an authorization system. This page can only be viewed via the campus network using the specified and approved subdomain (e.g.: xyz.uni-graz.at) until it is completely filled. Publication takes place via an approval workflow in which the Press Office takes into account compliance with the CD Manual.
Unit page: can only be requested if the unit has its own UNIGRAZonline identifier. Unit management must agree to the setup.

The authorization groups must be created at the GFS of the associated unit.

The authorization to work on a Typo3 page is done in the GroupFileService (GFS) of the unit to which the page is linked. At each unit there is a GFS admin who can administer the groups of his unit. The groups are structured in the pattern gg.OID(1).cms.chefredaktion (unit) or gg.OID(1).cms.subdomain.chefredaktion (project, event, study, club) or gg.OID(1).cms.PIDAB.chefredaktion (workspace).
1 OID is the organizational ID or identifier of the unit.
When a staff member is added to a group, she is given editing rights to the web page after 15 minutes. When a staff member is no longer working for the unit, they must also be removed from the corresponding JRC group.
Instructions on how to maintain the groups and information on the GFS Admin can be found on the intranet
In the backend in the middle column - the page tree - the entry point of your page is marked with a globe icon, unless you are working in a Workspace or Personal Homepage, as this is only attached to a main page. The first level below this point and all subpages that are on the same level will be displayed in the Horizontal Menu (if they are not special pages like the News Folder, Newsletter Folder or Sidebar Default Elements). Now when one of these pages is expanded in the backend, another page level appears, this one is now the first one that is displayed links vertically as a menu. When the next level is viewed in the backend, it would also show up as a subpage of the subpage on the left side of the menu with an indentation.
This behavior is also present in the English language version. When a German language page is translated, it will appear accordingly in the horizontal top or vertical left menu.
By default, a German-language basic structure is created for you, which can be translated by you. Currently the following languages are available: English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, Slovenian and Chinese. If you want to translate your page, please contact the service desk and the desired language will be activated for you. The translation is not done automatically by the system; it must be done by you. If a translation agency is hired, the cost must be paid by you.
When the creation/conversion of an Internet presence/home page is imminent, this is a good time to consider not only the content, but also what difficulties could arise if content was not created by the company itself. If, for example, images, texts or pieces of music are integrated into a homepage for which the authorship is unclear or unknown, or if content is taken over by means of a "copying process", there is a risk of far-reaching legal consequences, e.g. warning proceedings - which are very popular in Germany in particular - or the obligation to meet claims for damages, to pay back license fees or to pay lawyers' and court costs. Individual contents (words, images, sounds) contained on websites are subject to special protection (copyright protection) by the author in the case of corresponding idiosyncratic intellectual performance, and the use of third-party texts, images or pieces of music thus always requires the prior consent of the author or the licensee(s) (possibly collecting societies). Parallel to this, the graphic design of a web page carried out by a human activity, which is connected with a special effort in the sense of a special use of an individual or original peculiar intellectual performance, is also protected by copyright as a so-called work of commercial art and thus a work of fine arts. This leads to the fact that the unauthorized adoption of an entire website consisting of several pages can be judged as an infringement of the Copyright Act, either partially or as a whole, because protection can be claimed for each individual page. For the "website" as a whole, protection as a collective work may also apply, and possibly also database protection. Therefore, the following rules must be observed in order to ensure that the website is not subject to copyright infringement:
- Graphics, logos, texts, images, etc., which have not been created by the user, should never be copied and pasted onto the homepage.
- Texts on a website are to be created independently. Graphics, logos, images, etc. must be commissioned or requested internally in the relevant departments.
- If external content has to be adopted, only content that is undoubtedly not subject to copyright protection under trademark, design or competition law or to which there are no exploitation rights subject to a charge may be used. In case of doubt, the author or other contact person from whom the content is to be taken must be asked for permission in advance.
- Consent for the use of third-party content must always be provided in writing (at least by e-mail) and in any case permanently archived for as long as the third-party content is on the homepage.
- When using old works without permission, it is necessary to check whether the author has been dead for more than 70 years or whether photos were first published more than 50 years ago.
- Copies made for your own private use are not to be offered on the homepage or on the Internet.
- Teaching materials (scripts, copies, etc.) are not to be made available via the "open" Internet and homepage, but, if necessary, only in restricted access areas, e.g. e-learning platforms. The duplication of certain works created only for "school use" and distributed through appropriate publishers is generally prohibited.
- No third-party trademarks/logos and names are to be used on the Internet pages.
- It must always be stated who is responsible for the respective page and how this person can be reached.
- In the event of an alleged copyright infringement, take immediate action and contact the legal department.
- Prevent disputes by means of written agreements, conclude licensing agreements or use content that can undoubtedly be classified as copyright-free.
We make sure that all our websites and new developments can be displayed barrier-free and work closely with the Center for Integrated Studies. For example, at www.uni-graz.at we offer contrast settings in the header or font size settings so that users can adjust the contrast and text size to best suit their own needs. However, if a screen reader is now required, it will read all content of the web page from left to right and from top to bottom, also trying to textualize image content. Therefore, if you want to include images on your page, use the fields titled Alternative Text to also provide the information of the images in an accessible way.
You can read our accessibility statement in the footer of the website or via the following link: https://www.uni-graz.at/de/barrierefreiheitserklaerung/
For project pages, cooperation pages, club pages or even event pages it is possible to use an external domain.
If you want to use an independent domain for your site, you have to buy it and register it e.g. at nic.at. However, this is associated with costs that must be borne by you or your unit or the cooperation partners. The domain should be configured with and without www as follows.
- Either as A-Record "www.meineexternedomain.at" on "143.50.235.77" or "meineexternedomain.at" on "143.50.235.77",
- Or if supported by the provider a CNAME record for "www.meineexternedomain.at" on "wwwlb.uni-graz.at".
- If you use an entry without www, it is possible that only the IP address is accepted, therefore you have to enter "143.50.235.77" for "myexternedomain.at".
As soon as the configuration is finished on your part, contact us to make the settings in Typo3. Furthermore, only pages that are HTTPS(secure) will be opened, so we will create a TLS certificate as soon as the domain you purchased is configured appropriately.
If you need more information about this, please contact the service desk.
